The Silvio J. Mollo Federal Building, located at 1 St. Andrew’s Plaza in New York City’s Civic Center, is a major modernization project led by Krueck Sexton Partners, a Chicago‑based architectural firm celebrated for thoughtful, context‑driven design. The project reimagines a 1970s federal office building as a civic landmark and modern workplace for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, expanding the building’s role in public life and justice in Lower Manhattan. Rather than demolishing the structure, Krueck Sexton’s design preserves and upgrades the existing concrete frame, reducing whole‑life carbon and repositioning the building as a symbol of civic accessibility and environmental leadership. A new high‑performance façade and entry pavilion strengthen the building’s presence in St. Andrew’s Plaza while improving daylight, transparency, and urban engagement. The design targets LEED Platinum and Zero Carbon performance with all‑electric systems and enhanced energy efficiency, setting a new standard for sustainable federal architecture in New York.
