The Earls Court Regeneration Scheme has achieved a major breakthrough with Hammersmith & Fulham Council granting unanimous approval to redevelop the historic former Earls Court Exhibition Centre. Spearheaded by The Earls Court Development Company, the project aims to transform the derelict site into a vibrant, sustainable, and interconnected urban district.
Once home to one of London’s most iconic exhibition venues, the Earls Court site has remained largely inactive since the demolition of the exhibition centre. The newly approved masterplan positions the area for reinvention through housing, employment opportunities, culture, and green infrastructure. The project aligns with London’s broader goals for sustainable, inclusive, community-driven regeneration.
Masterplan and Operational Details
The redevelopment will deliver approximately 4,000 new homes, create thousands of jobs, and open up 20 acres of public realm and green space. Gillespies—an award-winning landscape architecture and urban design practice—plays a central role in shaping the landscape-led vision. Their scope includes the public realm for Warwick Walk, communal courtyards, roof terraces at Plot EC05, and biodiverse roofscapes for EC05 and EC06.
Economic and Social Impact
The project is expected to stimulate long-term economic activity across West London, attracting investment in hospitality, retail, culture, and employment. By prioritising wellbeing, biodiversity, and community amenities, the redevelopment supports inclusive growth while strengthening connections between surrounding neighbourhoods and transport hubs.
Strategic Significance
Designed as a climate-resilient district, the development sets a benchmark for future urban renewal across London. Its emphasis on nature-first planning, public access, and cultural placemaking showcases how large-scale regeneration can deliver both environmental benefits and social value. The project is anticipated to redefine West London’s urban fabric for decades to come.
