Recovery from addiction is a deeply personal process that is strengthened through collective support. Responding to this dual need, DLR Group has designed a 48,000-square-foot addiction recovery facility for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Conceived as a pavilion-like structure, the facility is organized around a central open courtyard that serves as both a physical and symbolic heart of the project. This inward-focused layout promotes interaction, reflection, and cultural connection, while carefully maintaining privacy, safety, and emotional protection for its users.
The architectural language emphasizes balance between openness and enclosure, allowing natural light, landscape, and circulation to support healing without compromising dignity. By integrating community-oriented spaces with areas for quiet retreat, the design reflects a holistic approachโrecognizing recovery as a shared journey rooted in respect, resilience, and place.
