Phoenix Marketcity Bengaluru stands as one of the city’s most prominent lifestyle and retail destinations. Developed by Island Star Mall Developers Pvt. Ltd., the 15-acre project combines master planning and architectural innovation to create a large-format retail environment focused on recreation, entertainment, and immersive spatial experiences.
With a built-up area of 14,70,000 sq. ft., the development has evolved into a landmark urban destination in Bengaluru.
Vision: A Lifestyle Engagement Destination
Positioned as a “larger lifestyle engagement destination,” Phoenix Marketcity prioritizes recreational shopping over daily utility retail. The G+3 retail structure integrates internal and external performance spaces, creating a dynamic, multi-layered environment for visitors.
The public plaza serves as a landmark entrance, setting the tone for a vibrant retail experience. Public drop-offs are strategically located at the heart of the scheme, ensuring seamless accessibility and efficient circulation.
Architectural Strategy and Spatial Experience
Designed in collaboration with Benoy, UK, the architectural language emphasizes openness, continuity, and visual connectivity.
Key design features include:
- Looped retail arcades with atrium nodes enhancing vertical visual contact
- Main exhibition spaces overlooking a public park
- Maximum glass façades to create transparency and overlook landscaped pools
- Sleek sliding glass doors and horizontally extending roof planes
The massing strategy merges multiple functional areas into a cohesive lounge and club-like environment. The overarching design concept — “minimal with clean-cut lines” — places strong emphasis on spatial experience and user engagement.
Materiality, Illumination, and Sustainability
Considerable attention has been given to lighting design and energy efficiency. Accurate illumination calculations ensure optimal lighting levels while supporting energy savings.
Natural stone flooring, varying in colour and pattern, introduces warmth and texture across the retail spaces. Randomized tile sizes complement the natural variations, adding visual interest and enhancing the tactile quality of the interiors.
Extensive glazing further promotes daylight penetration, reinforcing the mall’s open and contemporary aesthetic.
