Featured by ParametricArchitecture, Westfield Mall of the Netherlands stands as the largest shopping mall in the Netherlands. Designed by MVSA Architects, the project is distinguished by its sculptural façade and fluid architectural language, redefining the contemporary retail experience.
A Façade Inspired by Movement
The mall’s exterior is defined by flowing white lines that wrap around the building like a silk scarf caught in motion. This expressive architectural gesture unifies the composition while establishing a strong and memorable identity within the surrounding urban fabric.
The dynamic form softens the building’s scale and transforms the retail complex into a landmark—one that balances monumentality with elegance.
Material Innovation: Ultra-Thin Micro-Concrete
A standout feature of the project is its innovative use of glass fiber-reinforced micro-concrete in ultra-thin molded panels. This advanced material application allows the façade to achieve softly undulating forms that would be difficult to realize with conventional construction methods.
Through this experimentation, everyday concrete is elevated into a refined architectural skin—lightweight, precise, and sculptural. The material strategy demonstrates how technological advancement can push traditional materials into new aesthetic territories.
Fluidity Continues Indoors
The architectural narrative extends seamlessly into the interior. Ceiling elements resemble flowing curtains, echoing the movement suggested by the façade and reinforcing a sense of airiness and continuity.
The result is an immersive retail environment where sculptural form, material innovation, and spatial experience converge—positioning Westfield Mall Netherlands as both a commercial destination and a contemporary architectural statement.
