Actors Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott have officially revealed their newly renovated New York City home — a striking transformation from what the couple describes as “an abandoned 1980s office building” into a vibrant, maximalist masterpiece. The pair opened their doors for a special Architectural Digest video tour, showcasing years of meticulous design and restoration work.
The couple first discovered the Downtown Manhattan property in 2019, when, as Deschanel recalls, her reaction was a definitive “Ew, gross.” Scott agreed, describing the space as “totally raw and stripped down.” Determined to bring new life to the structure, they collaborated with New York-based interior designer Young Huh, renowned for her expertise in maximalist design and eclectic pattern play.
The Transformation
Together, Deschanel, Scott, and Huh reimagined the entire residence — introducing light blue cabinetry, marble countertops, and a lush living area that perfectly merges comfort with creative flair. Deschanel praised Huh’s ability to mix patterns and colors “with precision and balance,” while Scott used his construction expertise to maximize space efficiency.
The Design Details
A notable feature of the home is the concealed entertainment system — a drop-down TV screen and hidden karaoke setup that Scott personally installed. The living room, described by Deschanel as “perfection,” flows seamlessly into the open kitchen, exemplifying the couple’s shared approach to both beauty and function.
Downstairs, the family room features an antique-inspired fireplace replacing the original brick wall, creating a warm focal point.
Outdoor and Private Spaces
The home includes three private terraces, offering rare outdoor luxury in Manhattan. Scott noted, “You don’t really get a space like this in most New York apartments,” describing the terraces as reminiscent of their Los Angeles residence. The primary bedroom continues the blue-toned palette, blending tranquility with elegance.
The Essence of Home
Reflecting on the years-long renovation, Deschanel described the completed project as “a Christmas present.” Scott added with admiration, “She has better taste than I do.” Together, their home stands as a testament to collaborative creativity — a space where design, personality, and craftsmanship intertwine.
