Baker Barrios Architects is expanding its service portfolio with the launch of BirdDog Development Partners, a development management firm designed to bridge the gap between the architecture firm’s expertise and its preferred clients.
First Project: Student Housing Near Ole Miss
BirdDog’s inaugural project is a 755-bed, 243-unit student housing complex within a 15-minute walk of the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Construction broke ground in August on the 370,000-sf development, with the first phase scheduled for completion in Fall 2027. The project involves multiple developers, including Christa Development, Development Ventures Group, Kayne Anderson Real Estate, and BirdDog itself, while Montgomery Martin Contractors serves as general contractor.
The complex will feature a mix of cottages, townhouses, and flats, plus a 3,000-sf event venue. Amenities include a resort-style pool, beach volleyball and pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor fitness areas, sauna and cold plunge, lounges, study areas, a multi-sport simulator, and a yoga/spin studio.
Full-Cycle Development Services
BirdDog, based in Orlando, Florida, is led by Baker Barrios CEO Tim Baker and Chief Strategy Officer John Slavens. The firm provides comprehensive development management, including site selection, design, planning, budgeting, construction, operations, market research, feasibility analysis, entitlement and zoning, land acquisition, proforma management, branding, marketing, and project turnover.
While BirdDog is closely aligned with Baker Barrios’ architecture practice, its services are available to any developer seeking a full-cycle, integrated approach. The firm focuses on sectors including student housing, mixed-use, multifamily, and medical offices, leveraging Baker Barrios’ three decades of experience across diverse project types.
